I get an error when trying to update or install apps from Google Play

This usually happens when the Google Play Store database has become corrupted. The cause is unknown and is not limited to devices on an MDM such has Phones4Work, but can happen on any Android device. We have found the steps below usually solve the problem.
  1. Try clearing the app cache for Google Play
    1. Long press on the Google Play icon
    2. Tap the little (!) or "App info"
    3. Tap "Storage" (Samsung) or "Storage and Cache" (other Android devices)
    4. Select "Clear Cache"
    5. Try installing or updating an app.
  2. Try clearing the storage for Google Play
    1. Long press on the Google Play icon
    2. Tap the little (!) or "App info"
    3. Tap "Storage" (Samsung) or "Storage and Cache" (other Android devices)
    4. Select "Clear data" (Samsung) or "Clear Storage" (other Android devices)
    5. Try installing or updating an app.
  3. Try removing the updates for Google Play
    1. Long press on the Google Play icon
    2. Tap the little (!) or "App info"
    3. Tap the 3 dots in the upper right
    4. Select "Uninstall updates"
